About the Campaign:

SWORDS OF THE NORTHLANDS is a 3.5 edition D&D Game.

Swords of the Northlands
originally started as an original D&D campaign set in a fantasy world loosely based on Dave Arneson's Blackmoor.  I borrowed some encounter areas and a few NPCs as well as the excellent Judges Guild map from The First Fantasy Campaign.  The majority of the rest of the material was invented by me or begged, borrowed or stolen from somewhere.  I used the First Fantasy Campaign as an outline, then allowed my imagination to roam a little more freely and combined it with elements from past games.

Now that Zeitgeist Games is publishing a d20 Blackmoor updated for D&D 3.5, I was faced with the possibility that my Blackmoor would contradict the published setting.  I didn't relish the idea of the confusion created when my "unofficial Blackmoor" suddenly began to have to compete with Arneson's official setting.  I decided to rename and rework the campaign to avoid the issue.   I have been gradually replacing or customizing material; continuing to call it, "The Blackmoor Campaign" had begun to sound inaccurate --- so I have renamed it "The Northlands."   Since "The North" was one of the names by which I called my original campaign, I decided to combine elements of a campaign I ran 20+ years ago with the campaign I was running today.   Incidentally, if you have good google skills, you might find mention of another "Northlands" campaign being played in New Zealand.  The two campaigns on different sides of the globe have nothing to do with one another (yet --- I've been reading the excellent campaign chronicles of the New Zealand game with interest and will probably steal more than a few ideas from there...)

If you live near Rochester Hills, Michigan, and would like to join us for a game, please contact me at stefan@pair.com for more details.  We are always looking for new players!
