We resume our narrative on Torsday, the 25th of the month of Aout.  Our adventurers have by now grown to nine members!  The original group is composed of Whisper the Halfling, Malus the Dwarf, Trygvie the elf,  Mace Blackstar the Human Fighter, Philgo the Philosopher and Endor the Elf -- all of whom had originally come to hunt goblins.  They had been joined by Wilbered the Silent -- a cleric they had rescued from the goblins, as well as Cullen De Filch -- a human thief that had been released from captivity with the bugbears.  At the end of last session, the party had rescued Mandrake the Magic User from a Goblin torture chamber.

After having rescued Mandrake, the party continued south down the corridors.  Endor noted some irregularities in a hallway wall and the party stopped and searched, finding a secret door.  The secret door led to a hallway that led to a door.  The party trooped in and opened the door, seeing a man dressed in a robe seated at a table.  The man in the robe quickly cast some sort of an illusion spell and suddenly there were  multiple identical versions of him in the room.  A hail of arrow fire dispelled the illusions, but the stranger cast some sort of a hold spell on Endor.  Three snakes that had been hidden under the table lashed out --- one of them sank his fangs into the paralyzed Endor, killing him.  The party surrounded the spell caster and hacked him down, but not before he had inflicted considerable wounds on them with a wand he carried.

The adventurers discovered a locked chest under the bed and a set of keys.  After some bickering over who would open the chest, Cullen DeFilch agreed to open it providing he be allowed to select one item from the contents.  Using the key, Cullen unlocked the chest and found gold coins and 2 gems, one of which he claimed for himself.  The adventurers then callously plundered the body of Eldor; their late companion, taking arrows, a shortbow, holy water and other supplies.   In the room they found a staff, a wand, some keys, some gems, a silver snake medallion worn my the stranger in the robe and a letter the spellcaster had been writing addressed to “The Master” and relating that preparations were going well for the Goblin invasion of human lands. They used the key to lock the room and spent eight hours resting there.  Apparently the spell caster they had defeated was normally left alone; despite having left a watch no one disturbed them there.

The single remaining elf, Trygvie, detected a secret door in the wall during his watch.  The party opened the door and discovered what looked like a chapel with another statue of the snake with human  torso.  The statue had 2 large gemstones for eyes but after a brief discussion the players decided to leave the statue alone.

After a brief discussion the players decided to head into the unexplored west part of the complex.  A door led them into a metal smithing shop were five goblins, a bugbear and a dwarf prisoner were forging weapons.  A brief battle followed.  The goblins were all laid low by a sleep spell and the bugbear was cut down in an instant.  The dwarf attacked the goblins from the rear by hurling a hammer.  When liberated, the dwarf was proven to be none other than Ott Ahhhhht; former companion of Wilbered and Mandrake.  Ott armed himself with weapons and armor scavenged from the smithy and declared that he desired to find the magic sword which he knew to be in the possession of the goblins.

They found a series of locked doors and were attempting to pick locks on the doors when an Ogre surprised them and attacked.  Malus the Dwarf was badly injured in the fight but the group cut the Ogre down.

The thieves picked the lock on one of the doors and found themselves in a dining hall.  There they surprised  some goblin servants whom they chased out through a kitchen area and right into a group of goblin guards with a hobgoblin leader.  A fierce fight commenced with Mace Blackstar accidentally shooting Ott in the back and Malus fumbling his attack several times.  The party got beaten up pretty bad, but after they had killed two goblins and a hobgoblin, the goblins retreated.  At this point the party returned to the surface, left the ruins and returned to the Village of Signpost.

Once back in Signpost, the party stopped in at the Sheriffs office and showed him the note that they had found in the fortress that warned of an imminent attack by goblins as well as a plot to assassinate Sir Sven Svenson.  The Sheriff led them directly to the great Svenny himself who thanked them for the info and gave them two potions of healing.  Svenny was very concerned; goblins and orcs had been unknown to commit such coordinated attacks in the area and the name “Astrugon” mentioned in the letter hinted at non-humanoid leadership.  They cashed in their goblin ears for a reward and sold off some of the gems, bought up supplies and rested back at the Inn.

Trygvie cast detect magic on everything they brought back with them.  Trygvie’s snake shaped silver  belt, six arrows found in the room with all the wine bottles, a ring, staff and wand originally carried by the spellcaster named Moray Vaco, and a battle axe that Mace Blackstar had taken from the Bugbear guards all detected as magic by the spell.  Philgo read the magic book he had found which increased his wisdom.

The adventure ends here and resumes on the 2nd of the month of Sept; a Firesday... of course, in the meantime there is the small matter of a goblin attack in Svenson's Freehold...
